This song was inspired by the “Rosewater” dystopian sci-fi series by Tade Thompson.
In the book there’s a large alien dome in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, that opens once a year and heals the afflictions of everyone nearby. Little do the humans know, the aliens are taking over their bodies one cell at a time by replacing their human cells with alien cells.
Eventually, there’s an agreement reached with the aliens, where the aliens can harvest dead humans and inject an alien personality into them that was previously sitting on a hard drive on a distant outpost of theirs. (Hence the audio samples in the song, which, fun fact, were performed by my mom!)
I don’t want to plot spoil any more than that so I’ll stop here, but it was a fantastic series and I’d highly recommend it.
This song was written while tapping into that frantic and hopeless feeling of being in a war of attrition with an alien race that can afford to wait you out for eons.
